The following is the text of the live chat for the joint entrance test for BBS, BFIA and BBE 2010 hosted on www.du.ac.in.

Question: When we will get our hall ticket?

Question: What will be the tentative date of the interview?

Dr. Poonam Verma:Tentative Date of interview is 16 - 26th June

 

Question: Does the entrance exam have questions based on class XI or XII subjects, especially maths?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Subjects till 12th (English & Maths)

 

Question: What will be the duration of the exam, how many questions and what will be the subject wise break up?

Dr. Poonam Verma:120 ques and 120 min

 

Question: Please tell me how to apply for bbe entrance coz related sites are not updated

Question: What are the total no. of seats in bbs

Dr. Poonam Verma: for BBS - in CBS - 185, DDU and KMV 45 each in all categories

 

Question: what are the job prospects after BFIA?

Dr. Poonam Verma: BFIA job prospects, large spectrum of financial services, investment bankers and fund

managers

 

Question: can i apply next year also if i donot get admission this year in cbs?

Dr. Poonam Verma: yes you can apply in cbs next year also

Question: are there any sample papers for bbs,bfia,bbe enterance exam ?

Dr. Poonam Verma: sample papers are availble on the website of CBS www.sscbsdu.ac.in

 

Question: can we apply for bbe only through online application

Dr. Poonam Verma: Yes

 

Question: is there any change in exam pattern and syllabus as this year there will be common exam for bbs, bbe?

Dr. Poonam Verma: quantitative section needs to have knowledge upto the class 12th Maths

 

Question: When was the CBS (College of Business Studies) established?

Dr. Poonam Verma: In 1987, by the Delhi Administration on the initiation of the UGC & the Ministry of Human Resources, it was the first undergraduate management school of the University of Delhi.

 

Question: Where is the CBS located?

Dr. Poonam Verma: It is located in Vivek Vihar Phase II, Delhi 110095. The college will shift to a modern state-of-the-art campus which would include hostel facilities for students of both genders. The proposed campus will come up on a 5 acre site in Sector 16, Rohini.

 

Question: What are the two main courses offered?

Dr. Poonam Verma: The college offers the following flagship courses –

(i) Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS),

(ii)Bachelor of Financial and Investment Analysis (BFIA),

 

Question: What is the total student strength?

Dr. Poonam Verma: The course wise student strength is 

(i)   BBS – 395, 

(ii)  BFIA - 134

(iii) B.Sc. (H) Computer Science - 83

(iv)  PGDCA – 19

Question: What is the admission procedure?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Every year the college receives more than 15,000 applications for admission to its BBS and BFIA courses. Besides giving weightage to the performance in the Class XII examination (30%), the college uses a rigorous 3 step selection procedure consisting of –

Written aptitude test (50%)

Group discussion (10%)

Personal interview (10%)

 

Question: Who can apply?

Dr. Poonam Verma: A student who has either passed the Class XII exam. or its equivalent, with a minimum mark of 60% (55% in the case of SC, ST, CW & PH) in four papers – inclusive of English & Mathematics, or anyone who has taken the Class XII (or its equivalent) exam. in the current year and the result is awaited.

 

Question: Which are the other two papers?

Dr. Poonam Verma:They will be considered from the following –

Accountancy, Biology, Biotechnology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Geography,

History, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology

PASS MARKS SHOULD HAVE BEEN OBTAINED IN THESE SUBJECTS

 

Question: What is the status of current year Compartment cases?

Dr. Poonam Verma: They are not eligible 

 

Question: What is the status of candidates who have appeared for improvement?

Dr. Poonam Verma: They are not eligible

 

Question: Can foreign nationals apply? How?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Foreign nationals seeking admission to BBS/BFIA/B.A.(Hons) Business Economics course(s) against the prescribed quota of seats earmarked for them, shall have to apply through the Foreign Students Advisor, C/o Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Delhi – 110 007 and are exempted from the written examination, Group Discussion and Interview 

 

Question: What is the status of foreign students who have appeared in an exam. conducted by an Indian Board?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Those foreign students who have acquired their minimum qualification for admission from any Indian Board, in India have to apply directly as General category candidate. They have to appear for the entrance test like general category candidates and follow the same selection process as applicable to general category and in addition fill up the foreign student application form of FSR office (downloadable from:http://www.du.ac.in/forms/foreignstudents1.pdf). All admission of foreign students are channeled through the Foreign

Students Registry (FSR) office of University of Delhi

 

Question: When are the Mark Sheet & other certificates required to be furnished?

Dr. Poonam Verma: At the time of the Group Discussion/Personal Interview 

 

Question: What are the desirable traits the college seeks in the potential candidates?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Marks in class 12 and performance in the entrance test are a part of the criteria for selection to the course/s. A candidate must have a wholesome personality which includes Good inter-personal skills, Respect for the system, Punctuality, Motivation, Knowledge & Understanding of the subject/s

 

Question: When is the admission test?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Sunday, June 6, 2010 (9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)

 

Question: Which are the Test Centres?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Chandigarh, Delhi, Kolkata & Lucknow

 

Question: What is the Nature of the Test?

Dr. Poonam Verma: It is an Aptitude test covering the following areas

- Quantitative Ability, Reasoning, General English, Business & General Awareness

 

Question: What is the duration of the test?

Dr. Poonam Verma: 120 minutes

 

Question: How many questions are required to be attempted?

Dr. Poonam Verma: 120

 

Question: What is the marking scheme?

Dr. Poonam Verma: 3 marks for each correct answer

(i)mark is deducted for an incorrect answer

 

Question: How many candidates are invited for the GDPI?

Dr. Poonam Verma:About 6 to 8 times of the final number of seats

 

Question: How is the final selection made?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Final Selection will be made for all categories on the following basis:

BBS / BFIA  

Written Exam – 50%

XII Result - 30%

Interview – 10%

Group Discussion - 10%

Question: What are the details of the faculty?

Dr. Poonam Verma: The faculty forms the backbone of the college. It has been handpicked from the top colleges and B schools of India including IIM A; IIMC & ICFAI. There are 39 faculty members out of whom 16 are regular; 13 are temporary and ad-hoc while 10 are guest

faculty members. Learning takes place through lectures, discussions, projects, summer internships, industrial visits, excursions, etc.

 

Question: Are there any illustrious Alumni?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Yes, some of who are – Shubham Majumder, Associate Director-India Research, Macquarie Capital, Dhirender Kumar, CEO Value Research Online, Himanshu Chawla, DGM (Business Development) IBM, Himanshu Chitkara, Head FID, Morgan Stanley, Jiten Chopra, Partner KPMG, Sandeep Vyas, India Advisor Emaar MGF, Surender Mehta, AVP Vodafone Essar, Dinesh Kumar Chawla, VP Citigroup Shubham Majumder alongwith another alumnus(Sukrut Jobanputra) took the initiative of extablishing the Mumbai chapter of the CBS Alumni association in April 2009.

 

Question: What are the latest placement details?

Dr. Poonam Verma: Important recruiters on campus include BAIN Capability Centre, McKinsey Knowledge Centre, ATKearney, the Smart Cube, Futures First, Ernst & Young, Evalueserve, Infraline Energy, Grail Research. The highest package offered in both 2008-09 and 2009-10 was Rs.10 lakh and the average package is also constant over the two years at Rs.5.5 lakhs.

 

Question: Which is the better ranked course in terms of placements?

Dr. Poonam Verma: There is no comparison whatsoever since students from both courses are being offered good placements in the corporate sector. Our top recruiter – BAIN CAPABILITY CENTRE - has offered a package of Rs.10 lakh to three students from the BBS stream but then Futures First has offered a similar package to a student from BFIA.

 

Question: Which is a better course?

Dr. Poonam Verma: It depends on the outlook of a candidate – if there is an ambition to specialize in Finance, the course to opt for is BFIA while if one wishes to have general managerial knowledge as a base and one year of specialization in Finance, Marketing or HR, the

course to opt for is BBS.

Additional Seats for following Categories

(1) 5% of the total seats will be offered to the foreign students.

(2) 5% of the total seats will be offered to CW(Children/Widow/Wives of the officers and men of the armed forces, including paramilitary personnel, killed / died / disabled in action or on duty) category.

(3) 3% seats are reserved for Person With Disability (PH) candidates.

(4) 1,2 and 3 are supernumerary.

(5) The seat matrix may be revised every year as per the directive of the University of Delhi regarding reservation. Explanations

(a) All seats shall be filled through an open competition only.

(b) All efforts shall be made to make sure that no seat remains vacant. However, under no circumstances a candidate shall be admitted to the program later than the opening day of the 1st semester ,each year.

(c) Only the OBCs listed in the Central List of OBCs shall be considered for admission under the OBC category. The OBC certificate should mention that the candidate belongs to “Non Creamy layer” in order to be considered under the OBC category.

(d) OBC candidates shall be considered eligible in any college if the final marks listed for such candidate are not more than 10% lower than the final marks scored by the last candidate admitted to the general category.

(e) If any seats in the OBC category remain unfilled, the same shall be filled by General category candidates on the last day of counselling. The number of such seats shall be determined after deducting the number of candidates already admitted in CW and PWD categories.
